The visit of Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIH Asian Pacific Branch) Accreditation Panel Members

Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch (CIH Asian Pacific Branch) accreditation panel members visited the Department of Business and Hospitality Management, Caritas Bianchi College of Careers. Professor Susana Yuen, Department Head, introduced our programme “Professional Diploma in Property Management (PDPM)” to the panel.

The delegation of CIH Asian Pacific Branch includes Mr Wong Hin Nang, General Manager, Mr Sidney So, Vice Chairperson (Education and Training Committee) and Mr Matthew Ng, Training Officer.

“Professional Diploma in Property Management” is jointly run by Hong Yip Service Company Ltd. and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers

Hong Yip Service Company Ltd. (Hong Yip) and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) will work together to provide a scheme called “Earn as You Learn” for students who study Professional Diploma in Property Management. It aims to provide job positions as customer service assistant in Hong Yip for eligible students who may be promoted as assistant customer service officers when they graduate.

Dr Kim Mak, President of CBCC & CIHE, and Dr Aaron Chiang, Head of Human Resources & Administration, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on 27 June 2018. Professor Annie Bligh, Provost, Dr Law Chung Sea, Vice-President (Academic and Quality Assurance), Mr Manhoe Chan, Vice-President (Resources and Finance), Professor Susana Yuen, Head of Department of Business and Hospitality Management, Dr Eric Luk, Associate Head of Department of Business and Hospitality Management, and Mr Samuel Kwok, Training & Development Manager also attended the ceremony.

Catholic Secondary School Principal and Career Master Visit

A thirty-person delegation of Principals and Career Masters from Catholic secondary schools visited CIHE on 6 January to learn more about the programmes offered by the Institute and its future development. Vice-President Ms Leung and Director of Student Affairs Dr Ng introduced the newly launched GET-SET-GO scheme and Project Goal scholarship scheme respectively. The delegation had a chance to visit CIHE’s Nursing and Dispensing Labs as well.

President Mak thanked the delegation for visiting CIHE and presented souvenir to Principal Lam (Tung Chung Catholic School).

Vice-President Ms Leung explained how the GET-SET-GO scheme can provide support for students in higher education and employment.

Principal Lam (Tung Chung Catholic School), Principal Lau (Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School) and Principal Siu (Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School) all showed their support to the scheme!

Director of Student Affairs Dr Ng introduced the Project Goal scholarship scheme. Upon recommendation from school, students with financial difficulties and a total DSE score of 13 and above (from the best five subjects) will be given a deduction of tuition fee for studying five of the Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by CIHE.

2017 CIHE & CBCC Information Day

The Information Day of CIHE and CBCC was successfully held on 17 and 18 November 2017, with great participation from the public. The Information Day featured a wide range of events organised by our Schools and Departments such as admission talks, consultation sessions, campus tours, workshops and demonstrations. Over 500 visitors including secondary school students, teachers and walk-in parents visited our campuses and participated in our activities. They also met with our academic staff and students to learn more about the programmes we offered and our latest development.

Students were very interested in interactive media installation demonstrated by the School of Computing and Information Sciences. Department of Design showcased design work done by our alumni.

Meeting with CIHE and CBCC staff and students
Consultation booths (left) were arranged so that students can interact with CIHE and CBCC academics and students and obtain first-hand information about the programmes that students were interested in. Photo on the right shows visitors chatting with our Nursing students.

Talented teachers from the Department of General Education and Language Studies performed music live shows in 24-hour Zone. A lot of students got attracted to enjoy the performances.

2017 Joint Graduation Ceremony
2017 Joint Graduation Ceremony of CIHE and CBCC was held on 16 November 2017. Bishop Michael Yeung, Chairman of the Board of Governors, officiated the Ceremony. Members of the Board of Governors and Council, and honourable guests from different sectors attended the Ceremony to share the joy with the graduates.

Mr Denis Chang, Chairperson of the Council, delivered a welcoming address, sharing his views on education with the graduates. He encouraged the graduates to have faith and pursue moral excellence. He also highlighted the importance of listening to different opinions, hoping them to become the youth with conscience, good character, knowledge and broad mind. Dr Mak, President of the Institutes, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates this year as well as introducing the new campus and future plans of the Institutes.

After a graduate representative gave a vote of thanks, Rev John B Tsang, Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Governors, led a thanksgiving prayer. The ceremony ended with the singing led by Saint Francis Choir.

CIHE and CBCC will continue nurturing talents to contribute to the betterment of the society. Congratulations to all graduates! We wish you every success in your future endeavours!

Memorandum of Understanding with CIOL on Nov 13
Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) and Caritas Institute of Higher Education & Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CIHE & CBCC) are going to work together collaboratively through the Higher Education Language Partner Programme to promote the value of language learning and the benefits of joining an internationally recognised professional body. Witnessed by Prof. Annie Bligh, Provost, Dr Law Chung Sea, Vice-President (Academic and Quality Assurance), and academic staff from the School of Humanities and Languages, Dr Kim Mak, President of CIHE & CBCC, and Ms Ann Carlisle, CEO of CIOL, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on 13 November 2017, signifying the start of the three-year collaboration between the two parties. Not only does the Programme improve the competence of CIHE & CBCC’s language programmes, it also provides students with a channel to obtain, upon assessment, recognition of language proficiency from a UK body.

New Chief Executive, New Housing, New Possibilities: Conference on Asian Grassroots Housing Policies
Subdivided flats have been the social agenda in the past few years. However, It seems there are no solution by the government in releasing the housing needs of residents. In viewing the new Chief Executive has elected in the end of March, and the new government will be formed soon, the CFE and Platform jointly organise this conference and invite distinguished guest speakers from Taiwan, Seoul and Hong Kong to discuss the grassroots housing situation and experience among Asian cities. It hopes the conference can widen the horizon of participants and provide solutions for coming new government.
